Good health is one of the basic criteria for the developed nations. Generally, the ill health of any family member, especially the earning member, has a major impact on household income through the loss of productivity. Studies have shown that a large number of people in India are suffering from those diseases which can easily be cured by adequate provision of water and sanitation services. Besides communicable diseases, malnutrition is one of the major factors of childhood deaths in India which needs to be tackled urgently. Lokashraya Foundation has done
various research projects on health and nutritional issues in India. The Foundation believes in universalizing the health coverage. One of the key policy prescriptions of the Foundation is to open a medical college in each district of India to improve the shortage of medical professionals in the country.
